Juan Andres Castillo, a BETA senior from Mission, has been selected to participate in the elite Top Scholar scholarship program at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).  Castillo is one of only 10 enrolling freshman throughout the state of Texas and the first student from the Rio Grande Valley to achieve UTSA Top Scholar status.

Students chosen for the Top Scholar program must score at least 1400 on the two-part SAT, 2100 on the three-part SAT or 32 on the ACT.  They must be Texas residents and should be in the top 5 percent of their graduating high school class with a record of community volunteerism and leadership in school.

Launched in fall 2013, the UTSA Top Scholar program is a premier program that combines a comprehensive four-year merit-based scholarship with personalized experiences in academics, leadership and community service.

Castillo plans on attaining a double major in finance and accounting, with a minor in legal studies.
