Students in our program gain an overview of the health care field, including body mechanics, infection control and blood borne pathogens, legal issues and communication, therapeutic nutrition, personal care, wellness and disease process, phlebotomy, and advanced nursing skills. With this cross training of skills, students have the opportunity to work as an entry-level caregiver in a variety of health care settings including hospitals.
Successful students receive the training required by the State of Texas for Certified Patient Care Assistant, as well as American Heart Association (AHA) certifications in First Aid and CPR. Options are available to participate in work based learning environment at nursing homes and hospitals.

As a Patient Care student you will learn to perform routine administrative and clinical procedures to keep the offices and clinics of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors and optometrists running smoothly. In addition, you will receive hands-on instruction on providing nursing care in skilled nursing facilities and/or hospitals. You will also be given the opportunity to become a certified Patient Care Assistant.
Coursework includes instruction in anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, medical records, laboratory skills and personal healthcare.
As our student, you will learn the duties of a Certified Patient Care Assistant and have the opportunity to perform skills learned as you deliver quality resident care while at our clinical affiliations at a local long term care facility and local community hospital. You will learn the importance of commitment to other members of the health care team. Preparation is primarily in a simulated work environment combined with clinical application.
The skills that you will be taught in the Patient Care Program will be used on a daily basis. You will have the opportunity to earn a Patient Care Assistant Certification, which is valuable whether you choose to enter the work force immediately after graduation or further your education.
