In honor of School Board Recognition Month, representatives from all six STISD campuses attended the Jan. 18 board meeting to express gratitude to the district’s 24 board members for their leadership and service to the district.

As they addressed board members and acknowledged their contributions to STISD, representatives presented the trustees with unique tokens of appreciation on behalf of their respective campuses.

Students also communicated their appreciation through word and sound. Board members enjoyed an original poem written by a Science Academy student, as well as musical stylings from BETA and STPA’s mariachi group and a student pianist from the Science Academy.

District wide, a new initiative was implemented this year to allow for board members to see more of the magic that happens in the classrooms throughout the district. In keeping with this year’s Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) theme for School Board Recognition Month – “Superheroes for Schools” – the district named this project “Students Meet Superheroes.”

As part of the initiative, board members visited campuses over a two-week period in February, taking student-led tours to see instruction first-hand, and conversing with teachers and students about the learning taking place.
