The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has elected Yolanda Cuellar of South Texas ISD to a three-year term on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 1, Position B.
Cuellar has been a member of the South Texas ISD board since 2008, including serving as the Policy and Curriculum Committee chair. She has more than 30 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher and a campus and district administrator.
A graduate of Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a bachelor of science in elementary education, she also earned a master’s of education in reading and an administrative certificate for principals at all levels from The University of Texas-Pan American.
Her community involvement includes serving as a University of Texas Rio Grande Valley College of Science board member, Weslaco Chamber of Commerce Leadership Mid Valley program participant, and Weslaco Museum board member. Cuellar is a Leadership TASB graduate and Master Trustee.
TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local public school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.3 million students.
