Believing in the importance of participation in higher-level courses and the effects on student success, STISD encourages all students to participate in these offerings.

As has been the case since the district began offering AP courses 24 years ago, the district does not screen or use any barriers for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) participation. Conversely, the district actively recruits, encourages and supports every student to participate in rigorous coursework and testing.

The district continues to strive for its goal of reaching 100 percent of STISD graduates with a qualifying score in at least one subject area AP or IB exam.

A true testament to the commitment of the district, the STISD board of directors approved additional financial assistance for district families to assist with the financial burdens associated with these exams. This assistance began last school year and will continue this school year.

Jeff Hembree, STISD deputy superintendent, shares gratitude for the district community members who make results like these happen, commenting that, "Our students, parents, teachers, and campus staff are to be commended for their commitment to taking on hard challenges and striving for excellence."
